General Info

NO REPTILES CAN BE KEPT IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA WITHOUT A LICENSE.

The licensing system in WA for reptiles and amphibians is taken VERY seriously. Every year DPaW officers raid regular people in regular houses when they hear that someone is keeping reptiles without a license. There are fines and consequences for keeping any reptiles off license in WA.

There are specific species we can keep as pets in WA. A link to the full list of animals is provided under the ‘Licensing’ tab.

Apply for your Herpetofauna Keepers licence through The Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) website. It’s as simple as filling it out and sending it off. It takes about 10 business days to arrive via post. Links have been provided for the DPaW application forms.

You can apply for a Category 3 keeper license without prior experience. In the section asking for references or experience simply write NA, when applying for Cat 3. You are restricted to two types of pythons on a Cat 3 License. The South Western Carpet Python and the Stimson Python. Both are considered to be good beginner snakes.
